JS Tap Academy

JS Tap Academy is a dance school on the Herts/Beds border devoted to tap dancing. Established in 2006, the academy aims to promote tap dancing and encourage people of all ages and abilities to reach their full potential using both syllabus and non-syllabus work.

This is achieved, for the children, through the syllabus work and examinations with the NATD, and for adults through the Dance For Fun examinations and awards. Pupils are also encouraged to develop their own style, exploring different rhythms and sounds through non-syllabus work to many different genres of music.

Principal Jo Summerfield has over 35 years dance experience, specifically concentrating on tap dancing for the last 15 years. Her teaching qualifications are with the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) and she has been teaching for many years - both local classes and at workshops around the UK.

Jo also regularly writes the Talking Tap section for Dance Expression magazine, and helps to run Associated Tap Dancers - an organisation for adults who tap for fun with workshops and festivals all over the country.
